fyi

it was a poem for a friend
a classmate who broke up with a boyfriend
who happens to be a fellow classmate

the encounter in a heartbeat.

it used to be us
that loud laugh in the hallway
the boisterous and the merry

today the hallway is full of activity
but the laughs I hear are empty

it used to be us
that quiet whispering in the corner
the frantic hush of every murmur

today those corners seemed colder
without us they looked even darker

Yes, it used to be us
that suggestion of inseparability in a pronoun
the you and the me used as a noun

tonight we are not even words
just two people across the street

and an encounter that lasted just a heartbeat

look back and then look forward

sometimes a day is all a person needs to put things back into perspective..
sometimes it is good to be reminded of why we do certain things and why we believe in the things we do..
and sometimes it is better to stop and look back than move in a fast pace and keep moving forward aimlessly..
because it is only in stopping or in slowing down that we get to see the view, enjoy the experience and feel the moment..
it is only in looking back that we remember that that was who we were,
that we see that this is who we are now,
and also notice the little discrepancies between then and now
it is important that we know who we were in order for us to move forward and be better persons today and in the future

wistfulness.

I like to keep
the wistfulness at bay
with boisterous laughter
and subtle disarray

because

I hate for you to peek
at the pity way
I meekly saunter
through each day
